There are many different private businesses around the country, which offer several products and services, including many in the Miami area. Most businesses are on the level, however not all of them are genuine. When a business turns out to be different than advertised sometimes people can feel as though they have been the victims of fraud.
A private college, which had a campus in Fort Lauderdale, has settled a lawsuit after a former company employee contacted authorities about several alleged improprieties. ATI Career Training Center appeared to be like most other private colleges; however, the lawsuit alleged that ATI recruited students in order to get them qualified for federal loans grants. Those grants were then allegedly paid directly to ATI.
According to court papers the lawsuit also alleged that ATI engaged in a “systematic and nationwide fraudulent practice of forging documents and records to create an appearance of student eligibility in order to receive federal funds.” According to the settlement, ATI has agreed to pay $3.7 million but has not admitted to any wrongdoing. Reportedly, the company will pay $2 million of the settlement to refund students who claim to have lost money.
Any time a company acts in fraudulent way, those who are the victims of these actions can be left to suffer the consequences. If a person feels that he or she has been the victim of fraud or another type of commercial or business dispute, then he or she might want consider meeting with an experienced business litigation lawyer.
